"It has been so important to have a place to heal as I write, and to mutually share writing and healing journeys with others in a supportive community. Once I have expressed myself through writing, I can better understand and rise above myself. Thanks for this opportunity." --Debra Darby
Writing Thru Grief
We reflect on the sixth stage of grief: finding meaning. We explore how grief is an initiation and brings with it hidden blessings and a sense of belonging in the world. The grief may be for loss of a loved one, a job, a home, a sense of identity, a relationship or a future we thought we had. This self-guided course uses writing exercises, writing prompts, and questions for reflection. Participants can interact through posting their writing or comments and I will read and respond to everyone's comments. After you enroll, each lesson opens a week apart and has 3-5 writing exercises. You can return to previous lessons and move at your own pace.

A pilgrimage is a devotional practice consisting of a prolonged journey, often undertaken on foot, toward a specific destination of significance. It is an inherently transient experience, removing the participant from his or her home environment and normal daily identity. The motivation in undertaking a pilgrimage might vary, but the act, however performed, blends the physical and the spiritual into a unified experience.
Writing Prompt: Pilgrimage
By taking yourself out of ordinary life, you hope to experience inner transformation. You make a decision to separate yourself from ordinary activities, you give something up to make the journey, you are altered in some way by the journey itself, and you are different after you arrive. Sometimes the journey requires great sacrifices, not only time and money, a good backpack and a pair of hiking boots, but fasting, blisters, exhaustion, and hard beds.
In this time of transition, what do you choose to leave behind, what do you HAVE to leave behind, what are you bringing with you for support and what do you hope to find at the end? How is your life like a pilgrimage?

Writing is a way to listen to the deepest self and inner voice of wisdom. What tools enable us to access the deep voice of guidance? What stories do we feel compelled to share? How is writing to heal different from journaling?
